A little history of the Vandersluys

A little history of the Vandersluys family in Niagara Falls.
Dobbies Florist was open in 1888 and is now the oldest family run business in Niagara Falls, and in Canada.
Both my grandfathers were in the First World War. I heard that my grandfather was the first gym teacher in Niagara Falls. Known as the Colonel. He is on the Niagara Falls wall of sports.
My dad was in the Second World War, was on the Niagara Falls planning board, and had part in starting the Blossom Festival in Niagara. He also ran Dobbie’s after his return after the war.
My mom Joan Vandersluys was a R.N. and worked at GNGH for years.
My brother Bruce Vandersluys now runs Dobbie’s with his wife Brenda Vandersluys

A little history of the Vandersluys

A little history of the Vandersluys

I first started in photography after doing many travel images and Brenda suggested joining the Niagara Falls Camera Club. While working at the Cyanamid Welland plant I would travel to Chicago to take workshops on photography from the Professional Photographers of America. After the Cyanamid closed down I went into photography full time, and had a little place behind Dobbie’s. At a workshop in upstate NY I met

Jacq Baldini and we got married in 1994. Over the years both of us received our Masters and Craftsman degrees from the
Professional Photographers of America. In 1994 we also moved to our location on Lundy’s Lane.
Jacq Baldini started a Plein Air Painters group called IPAP and has members all over the world. She also is on the Arts and Culture Wall of Fame. Myself I was the first Canadian to be President of the Professional Photographers of Buffalo Niagara, and have won International Photographer of the Year three times.
Over the years Baldini Vandersluys Photographers have had the honor of photographing some interesting, and well know people. Here are just a few, former Prime Minister Joe Clark, the last four Mayors of Niagara Falls, Janice Thomson (former head of the Niagara Parks Commission ), Superstar of Illusion Doug Henning, Justin and Margaret Trudeau, Jay Cochrane Celebrated Canadian tightrope walker, Nik Wallenda seventh-generation member of The Flying Wallendas family of aerialists, Amanda Lang Canadian business journalist, currently employed by BNN Bloomberg, MPP Wayne Gates and family, Rob Nicholson (he served as Minister of National Defence, Minister of Justice, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Leader of the Government in the House of Commons. ) and family, Buffalo Sabres goalie and author Clint Malarchuk, Christopher Allen Lloyd actor writer/producer, Astronaut Dr. Dave Williams, LIEUTENANT-GENERAL THE HONOURABLE ROMÉO A. DALLAIRE, Wolfgang Puck, Dr. Robin Williams (Order of Canada),
A few years back we started our wedding chapel business, first a indoor one, then a few years later our outdoor one. I still love the feeling I get when I can share a special moment with peoples lives.
